The winning competitors of the 2011 Erewash Triathlon fly out to Germany this week to represent the borough in the Frankfurt Olympic distance triathlon on Sunday (5 August).
Champion triathletes Nick Dunn and Emily Ault gained automatic entry into the international triathlon after winning the men's and women's titles in Erewash Borough Council's annual triathlon last year.
Places in the Frankfurt event were provided to the winners thanks to the Council's partnership links with Long Eaton's twin town of Langen in Germany.
This year's Erewash Triathlon takes place on Sunday 12 August and, thanks to the twinning links, the winners of the men's and women's events will again achieve automatic entry into the 2013 Frankfurt triathlon.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council's Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
"We wish Nick and Emily all the very best for the Frankfurt event this weekend – we know they will do Erewash proud! Our friends and colleagues in Langen have been absolutely wonderful in their support and enthusiasm in setting up this sporting link.
"We are delighted that it continues this year and it adds to the prestige and status that the Erewash Triathlon has achieved, attracting competitors from all over the country."
This year's Erewash Triathlon hit race capacity well in advance of its closing date for the third year running and over the weekend of 11 and 12 August it is expected that over 500 competitors aged between 8 and 80 will take part in the events lined up for the sporting weekend.
