POLICE officers investigating the theft of an Erewash Borough Council tipper van have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
The offence happened at 3.35pm on Christmas Eve on Tamworth Road in Long Eaton. A refuse collector stopped to empty a street bin and as he got out of the vehicle he was pushed from behind and fell over.
As he stood up he saw a man in the driving seat who he described as being in his late 20s, of average build, with short light brown curly hair. He was wearing a light brown jacket.
The council worker fell as the van was driven off and injured his elbow.
The van was found shortly afterwards on Norfolk Road in Long Eaton.
Anyone who saw the van being stolen or abandoned should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
