STARGAZERS can look to the late-night skies with the help of experts this month at Erewash Museum.

On Friday January 11 the museum will be hosting a FREE Astronomy Night between 7pm and 9pm.

Visitors of all ages will be able to view the night sky from the museum garden and learn more about astronomy, planets and galaxies using professional equipment.

Members of Ilkeston and District Astronomical Society will be on hand to point out the many stars and planets in our galaxy – while the Museum will be open for a special chance to view the building and exhibitions during the evening.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council's Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

"The Astronomy Night is the perfect launch for what promises to be another year of exciting exhibitions and events for visitors to our award winning Museum.

"For anyone interested in learning more about the night sky this is the ideal opportunity to view the stars using professional equipment with the help of experts . . . and all for free."

Erewash Museum is just off the High Street in Ilkeston Town centre, a short walk from the Market Place. Admission is free and it is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm.
